Aban Offshore which is formerly known as Aban Loyd Chiles Offshore Ltd. was established by Mr. M. A. Abraham in 1965. The Arban Group provides Oil services, petrochemical services, petroleum services, wind energy & power generation.

Aban Offshore owns and operates several offshore drilling Rigs, drill ships, and a floating production facility, ‘Tahara’.

The AOL has proven itself in drilling operations, production and exploratory block worldwide for Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC), Hardy Exploration & Production (India) Inc., Shell Brunei, Shell Malaysia, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (GSPC), Hindustan Oil Exploration Co. Ltd., Cairn Energy, Petronas Carigali, ROC Oil, Shell (South East Asia), ExxonMobil Malaysia.

Wind Energy Division

Wind Energy Division

Aban Offshore produce about 70MW of Wind Energy annually along with its subsidiaries.

The AOL wind farms are located at Radhapuram, Pazhavoor and Kavalkinaru in Tirunelveli District of South Tamil Nadu.

Aban Energies Limited (AEL) has KVS-33 model, 410KW capacity wind turbines which use the variable speed technology. It generates more power, reduces wear and tear and maintenance costs.

Company History & Milestone

Aban Offshore was founded by Mr. M. A. Abraham in 1965.

Mr. M. A. Abraham began his career as an engineering professional in the Construction Industry with some popular companies like the Tata Group and Saipem.

Aban Offshore started as a small engineering firm in Chennai, Tamilnadu. The Aban Group got more success in the execution of high-pressure systems and cross-country pipelines for refineries and fertilizer and petrochemical industries.

Aban ventured into the high-powered domains of drilling, power generation and IT Enabled Services (ITES).

Milestones of Aban Offshore

1986: Incorporated as Aban Offshore Ltd.

1987: First 2 jack-up rigs arrive in India from the USA. First well drilled by Aban Offshore Ltd for ONGC.

1990s: AOL preferred to increase its focus on the sector with newer rigs, acquisitions and mergers while private sector companies in India chose to exit at that moment.

1993: AOL purchases a 300-ft. jack-up rig from Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

2000 – 2001: Aban Offshore acquires Hitech Drilling Services (India) Ltd., belonging to the Tata Group, boosting AOL’s fleet to four rigs. This also enables Aban Offshore to enter the FPSO business with the FPU ‘Tahara’ owned by Hitech.

2005: Aban Offshore adds two jack-up rigs name as Aban V and Aban VI) and a drill ship (Frontier Ice).

2005: In line with its global expansion strategy, AOL launches Aban Singapore Pte Ltd. (ASPL) in November as its vehicle for international operations. ASPL, in turn, sets up 3 SPVs as step down subsidiaries, each equipped with a rig or drill ship.

2006: ASPL acquires a 33.7% stake in Sinvest ASA, a Norwegian company with eight new premium jack-ups on order. ASPL subsequently completes the acquisition in stages, including a mandatory offer to all shareholders.

Currently: Possesses eighteen offshore drilling and production units spiraling us to a prestigious position among the top ten offshore drilling asset owners in the world.
